LEGEND LITE SKYWATCH SS-11/A

TYPE: Tandem-seat ultralight kitbuilt.

PROGRAMME: Based on the Beaver RX-650 which first flew 1991. In early 2002, some 450 Beaver lightplanes remained in Canada, including 22 RX-650s. First flight of SS-11, mid-1995.

CURRENT VERSIONS: Standard version as described; 37.0 kW (49.6 hp) Rotax 503 and 55.0 kW (73.8 hp) Rotax 618 engines optional.

CUSTOMERS: Nine flying by end-2000; no further additions known in 2001; six current on Canadian register in 2002.

COSTS: Kit with Rotax 582 US$16,995 (2003).

DESIGN FEATURES: Simple, pod-and-boom configuration, with braced wing and tailplane, plus pusher propeller. Optional folding of wings and horizontal tail surfaces. Parts manufacture 90 per cent computer numeric controlled (CNC). Quoted build time 200 hours.

FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual . No aerodynamic balances.

STRUCTURE: Metal airframe with composites fuselage fairing and fabric covering on flying surfaces.

LANDING GEAR: Fixed tricycle type; steerable nosewheel. Optional 4.57 m (15 ft 0 in) composites amphibian floats.

POWER PLANT: One 47.8 kW (64.1 hp) Rotax 582 UL. Standard fuel capacity 51 litres (13.5 US gallons; 11.2 Imp gallons).
