Founded in 1974, Zenair designs and develops light aircraft. Christophe Heintz was formerly chief engineer of Avions Pierre Robin in France. In 1992 Zenith Aircraft Company was formed to manufacture and market all models except the CH 2000 in the USA, and in September 1996 reached full production status. In June 1999, Zenith announced that it was transferring production of the CH 2000 to a new, purpose-built 2,800 m2 (30,000 sq ft) factory at Eastman, Georgia; Aircraft Manufacturing and Development Company was formed to produce the aircraft and its derivative, the kitbuilt CH 640; the transfer is now complete, although Zenair built three CH 2000s in 2002.
Zenair has licensed representatives in Africa, South America, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Spain and the UK.
Zenith Aircraft Company (Mexico, Missouri, USA) licenses kit production of Zenair designs. In addition to light aircraft, company constructs metal floats and amphibious floats.
