TYPE: Medium-haul airliner

MISSION: The family of medium-haul airliners powered by two PS-90A 16,000-kgf turbofan engines or by their foreign-made analogues. The base aircraft is the Tu-204 that is designed to carry 214 passengers at distance of 4,900 km at a speed of 850 km/h. The maiden flight was made on 2 January, 1989. The series production of the airliner was set up at the Aviastar plant (Ulyanovsk) in 1990. The Tu-214 version has been built at the Kazan-based Gorbunov aircraft production association since 1994. As of 2003, there have been built over 30 airliners of all variants, which are currently flown by Russian and Egyptian carriers.

The main versions are the Tu-204 214-seat base aircraft powered by two PS-90A engines (1990); Tu-204C transport version (1995); Tu-204-100 version featuring a take-off weight of 103 tonnes and an additional centreplane-mounted fuel tank; Tu-204-100C transport version of the Tu-204-100; Tu-204-120 – a Tu-204-100 version fitted with Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4B engines and Allied Signal and Honeywell avionics suite on order by the Sirocco leasing company of Egypt (maiden flight was on 6 March, 1997; by 2003 five airliners and a freighter had been handed over to the customer); Tu-214 (Tu-204-200) featuring a take-off weight of 110.75 tonnes, an additional centreplane-mounted fuel tank and 240-seat capacity (first flew on 21 March, 1996, the first production plane made its maiden flight on 10 April, 2001); Tu-204-300 – a 166-seat Tu-204 version featuring the 9,000-km range and the fuselage length reduced by 6 m.

Type certificate for the Tu-204 aircraft was issued on 29 December 1994, for the Tu-214 – on 29 December 2000. By the beginning of 2003, 13 Tu-204s and three Tu-214s had been used by Russian airlines.
